That's pretty wild. I suppose this is just the next step along the road where live concerts have pre-recorded music and such. Trying to decide whether this is bothersome or not. Yes and no, I suppose... as long as it remains within the realm of entertainment rather than hard news. Not that I expect it will, but I will withhold my outrage until then.

Okay, now I'm starting to get a little annoyed.

Will they substitute members of their Olympic teams mid-event if one is not performing perfectly too?

Or perhaps re-run rehearsal footage for scoring, in place of the actual performance?

I feel sorry for both of those kids. They're too young to have to deal with this nonsense.

How very odd that the article about the 7-year-old's being swapped in the name of "national interest" was edited the day after I linked it. The mysterious comment by Chen disappeared. I wonder, was the edit in the name of national interest? Or was that a gross misstatement by the press? The edited version is definitely more sugar-coated.

Once again, New Orleans is under orders to evacuate. This time, more are taking it seriously and getting a head start on leaving.

Part of my family has already left and is heading toward Tennessee, while the other part is obligated to evacuate LSU's computer equipment to Dallas. The last I looked at the hurricane's route, it was going to die down just outside of Dallas. I'm concerned about them.

Please keep them and all the others in prayer. Our church just sent a youth mission team down there earlier this month. There is still a lot of pain and hopelessness there.

If New Orleans is hit hard, I will have house guests again. Last time I had four family members and two dogs stay for two months. (Yeah, and my cat got along with the dogs ... family.)

You can be sure you and your family and friends will be in my prayers, Doc! My daughter's Father-in-law lives just outside Dallas too...I know they weill be worried and in prayer also.

It is just so sad that the weather is plumiting those poor people once again!

Our Unique Humanity

Joseph Kovach was 15 when he was sent to a Soviet gulag. He described his time of imprisonment this way: “When I look at the months, the years, they were empty. There’s nothing in terms of thinking, of planning, of remembering the past or planning for the future. It felt almost as though I was hibernating.”

Kovach was moved to a camp with a small library. Then his mind explored the possibilities of ideas...concepts...creativity. When released, he attended the University of Chicago.

In a PBS interview Kovach concluded, “Ultimately, it is our mental apparatus, our capacity to think, our capacity to deal with ideas, our capacity to find unities, coherences in variations—that’s what makes us human. We have a way of creating worlds for ourselves, in our heads, and sharing those worlds.”

Think about it. Mathematics, music, science, engineering—these are all distinctly human endeavors. We are unique ( my notes here: because we are created by a loving God.) Understanding your origins shapes your future.
